America’s Teetering on the Verge of Dictatorship

Four months ago I wrote that the upcoming election is the most important in American history. It wasn’t hyperbole. Yesterday we clearly and unequivocally understood why.

At his daily Campaign Propaganda Rally (aka “Task Force press conferences”), Donald Trump officially declared himself dictator.

“When somebody’s president of the United States, the authority is total.”

Let me repeat that: he said his power is “total.”

No Congressional oversight. No co-equal branches of government. No 10th Amendment of the Constitution. Just King Trump. Herr Trump. Dear Leader Trump.

This is not the first time Trump has MAGAsturbated to authoritarian fantasy. But it’s the first time he’s directly pitted this desire for total power against a potential Constitutional battle…in this case between him and state governors over who would have the authority to “reopen” the economy.

“The president of the United States calls the shots,” Trump said. “They can’t do anything without the approval of the president of the United States.”

Forget for a moment that he’s 100% incorrect. That’s not the issue. The issue is that, if this fascist sociopath is re-elected, American democracy is over as we know it.

Consider that today, in the courtship phase, and as a grossly unpopular, impeached president vying for voters’ support, Trump is unabashedly attempting to invoke absolute rule. Imagine what this power-craving monster would do if given another four years unchecked. Are you fucking terrified yet?

Since January 2017 we’ve witnessed gross dereliction of duty by Congress — in particular Senate Leader Mitch McConnell, whose head is so far up Trump’s ass it’s a miracle he can breathe — but also from vice-president Mike Pence and members of the cabinet, all of whom have the power to invoke the 25th Amendment right now and remove this dangerous, corrupt sociopath from office. But they don’t. And they won’t.

No one in the Republican Party will stop him. No one. They’re either too scared of him, too addicted to his judicial and tax spoils, too enamored of their proximity to power or all of the above. That leaves voters to do the job for them.

So, to my fellow Americans, let me say this: I implore you to vote this November…and to vote for Joe Biden. Vote like our democracy, and your life, depends on it.
