The Trump/GOP Co-opting of God, Patriotism, Country Music, Pick-Ups, Motorcycles & Toughness

I’m not exactly sure when it officially began, but over the decades Republicans, jet-propelled by the demagogic rhetoric of Donald Trump, have succeeded in creating an American narrative that only right-wingers believe in God, love their country, respect the flag, drive pick-ups, ride motorcycles, listen to country music and are ‘tough’ law and order folks.

Forget that their leader Trump is the weakest, most corrupt, most treasonous Antichrist ever seen in American politics.

Forget that the 5-deferment draft-dodging coward Trump chose to run and hide rather than fight in Vietnam for his country.

Forget that the serial-sinning Trump spends his Sundays at the Church of the 18-Holes while his opponent Joe Biden…who’s faith he despicably attacks…is in an actual Church. That doesn’t stop evangelicals from anointing him their Chosen One.

Forget that Trump pisses on the rule of law and the Constitution every single day of his criminal life.

Forget that Trump allows a foreign enemy like Russia and its dictator Vladimir Putin to attack our democracy while paying to have our troops murdered.

Forget that Trump wouldn’t be caught dead hanging out with the typical pick-up-truck-drivin’, motorcycle-ridin’, country-music listenin’ ‘Muricans who worship him yet who he disdains.

We liberals have dutifully served in the military. We ride motorcycles. We drive pick-up trucks. We listen to country music. We love our Gods. We respect the law and the Constitution. We’re patriots who love our country.

Republicans don’t own any of this.
